Podcast Interview with Dr. Karen Jordan and Dr. Courtnee Jordan-Cox
Pfc. Annie Knight Jordan decided to enlist in the Women's Army Corps, because she believed there was more she could do in the war effort and with her life. She remembered her overseas training was extremely strenuous. At one point, she was assigned to clean the windows outside in the cold for not passing some inspection. Before their quarters were ready in Birmingham, they stayed in stables and bathed out of their M1 helmets. Jordan's descendants remembered her mentioning the English were more receptive to Black soldiers, both male and female, than Americans. After service, Pfc. Knight used the GI Bill to attend Howard University.
