Nancy Minnis in Uniform
On 29 November 1918, eighteen Black nurses took the Army Nurse Corps oath of office, becoming the first to do so. They were assigned to Camp Sherman, Ohio and Camp Grant, Illinois. Nancy Jeannette Minnis is quoted in the Richmond Planet as having "the distinction of being one of the few colored Red Cross nurses who served so faithfully in the Worlds War."
