Fort Gregg-Adams Entrance Sign

In 2023, after the Army prompted the renaming of 9 Army installations previously named after Confederate soldiers, Fort Lee was redesignated Fort Gregg-Adams, in honor of Lt. Gen. Arthur Gregg and Lt. Col. Charity Adams. Lt. Gen. Gregg was the first Black Quartermaster General, and Lt. Col. Charity Adams was one of two Black female Lt. Cols. to serve during World War II. She led the only all-Black WAC battalion, the 6888th Central Postal Directory, to serve in an overseas theater during the war.
