PVT Margaret Glenn Sales Semmes, from Chicago’s South Side, was a music student at Northwestern University before she joined the WAC on her 20th birthday. Assigned as a Postal Clerk, Pvt. Semmes was a prolific letter writer who documented her work and travels in letters to friends and family. PVT Sales served from 21 September 1944 – 26 April 1946 and was stationed at Fort Des Moines, Iowa, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, and the European Theater of Operations.
