Originally established as a temporary camp during World War I, Fort Lee became a permanent installation in 1950. In 2023 the installation was redesignated as Fort Gregg Adams in honor of Lieutenant General Arthur J. Gregg and Lieutenant Colonel Charity Adams Earley.
